Do you run residentials? Learning Away is delighted to invite you to attend a free workshop: ‘Brilliant Residentials v Progress 8 – how Learning Away fits with schools’, run by Anita Kerwin-Nye, Director at NotDeadFish.
It is for those interested in better understanding the school context to ensure that their offers better engage and support schools and ultimately lead to more #BrilliantResidentials.
The school system faces the biggest series of changes it has seen for a generation. The accountability frameworks have changed at primary and secondary; there is no longer a truly national curriculum; school structures are changing with the acceleration of Multi Academy Trusts but also the potential expansion of grammar schools; qualification reform continues apace and school budgets are facing unprecedented pressures.
This session will explore the new roles in the system – who are the Regional School Commissioners? And consider the challenges and potential of the new structures for Learning Away – what are emerging Multi Academy Trust structures? It will look at the accountabilty measures. What is the EBACC and how could #BrilliantResidentials help? How does delivering residentials sit alongside the pressure of getting a good score on the Progress 8 Measure? And it will explore questions of equitable access. What next with Pupil Premium, Character and Social Mobility?
The value of residentials as a tool for the rounded development of children and young people is well understood amongst those who are engaged in them – as provider, commissioner or participant. This has been evidenced through the work of the Learning Away Programme– an initiative funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation and now a consortium of organisations committed to more children and young people having #BrilliantResidentials.
By the end of the session participants should have a better view of:
-the accountability frameworks that schools work to
-the new structures in the school system
-key points of influence
-the pressures on schools and how residential providers can offer support
